Bad sectors will slow the search down and the progress going fast then slow is an indication of this.

Please stop the current search, but before you do take a note of the cluster number that the search is up to.

Try a new search for just .doc files. Before you start it, click on the OPTIONS button in the main program screen. In the ADVANCED tab, put a tick in the box for "prompt for start cluster". You can now start the search at different locations on the disk and see how it runs.
