Default data recovery

Yes, you are correct.

You need to run a Complete Format Recover search on your drive. Search only for the default selected files types.

At the end of the search look in Folder View of the Recover My Files results screen to find your old files. When you save files to another drive they will save with the folder structure you see here. Once you have saved everthing, you can move then move the folders or individual files back to your formatted drive. Where you put them is up to you.
