I am an existing user and have a similar problem. I tried two methods to update to the latest version of Recover My Files 3.9.8.6148. The first was to click on the Check for Updates button. The update downloaded and installed. It then asked for permission to restart to allow the new executable to load. This was granted. The re-load started then "Beep" and nothing.
Next I removed Recover My Files via Add/Remove Programs, downloaded the full download from the GetData web site and installed again from scratch. Same result. Beep and then nothing. It fails to load.
Next I again removed the program via add/ remove programs, cleaned out the temp files and did some registry cleaning. Re-installed the program and ...
"Beep" and nothing.
This time I removed the program using add/remove programs and went back to an older version of the Recover My Files setup file that I had archived.
It installed itself and works perfectly. Is there a problem with the newest installer perhaps.
I too am using XP at SP3, with administrative permissions. Never had a problem like this before.
