I was actually able to get it to work on my laptop (which was a lot faster) by unplugging it when it got stuck on "scanning for logical drive G" and then selecting that hard drive and then plugging the external drive back in. I am still going through all that I have recovered, but I am pleased to have recovered most of my XLXS files that I worked so hard to create. Thank you so much for all your help!
P.S. I don't have it up anymore to know what it was, but my filesystem records number actually went up much higher than that 124319 by the time it was all over with.
