So I have one of the wonderful Dell laptops that needed the replacement battery. I have (in the past) been good about backing my files up, but had neglected to back up my honeymoon pictures and videos. I changed the battery as told and something screwed my computer up. I can't get into the files that held my documents or my photos. Dell is absolutely NO help (even though I have a sneaky suspicion that it was something to do with the battery they sent...my computer was fine and virus-free prior), except to say to send the harddrive away. I can't afford that at all (JUST out of college and making squat).
We tried reinstalling and repairing windows, but I fear we just screwed it up more. I downloaded the trial version of RMF and it looks like it is finding all (or most) of my files. It sounds (from the other forums) that I should be fairly successful at recovering my files, but I don't really have $80 to **** if it doesn't work. Any feed back would be helpful regarding whether it would work or not.

You still have a good chance to get the important information off your drive. You should download Recover My Files from www.recovermyfiles.com and run a "Complete Format Recover" of the drive letter searching for the default selected file types ONLY. At then end of the search the program will rebuild your old file system and display the results to you in Folder View.
If your drive has been screwed around by the Format Process and the obove search does not give you good results, next try a "Complete File Search" for specific file types. They may not be recovered with full file and folder names, but you should still get the contnet back. In the results screen click on the files found to preview their content. Anyting that can be previewed can be recovered. If you cant afford the product activation key then write to support@getdata.com and tell them this and they will send you a coupon code for a discount. Good luck.
