Default Hard Drive Crash

Ok...SO I got nailed by a nasty virus and I can't boot the computer. I would like to save some files that were on the computer that did not get saved from the last backup.

So what should I do if I can't boot the computer in order to save these files with as much accuracy as possible using this software?

Thanks

You need to connect this drive to another computer as the secondary drive. Recover My Files will allow you to search the problem drive at a physical level.

Make sure you have an up to date virus scan program on the second pc.

Thank you for the advice

So I have ran a complete restore off of the damaged drive that I set as a slave. It has found thousands of files and I could see that it was accumulating excel and Access files as it searched.

Now that the search is over after 11 hours, it has been sitting at the screen below for another 11 hours. The magnify lens is still moving around the hard drive but it has not moved. The message says finished FAT virtual partition one. I am running version 3.98. How should I proceed?

The program is stuck on something. Can you please check the build number that you are using - at the top of the program click HELP - ABOUT and tell me what it says next to Version.

Thank you.

You are using the lastest version so I am not sure why it is getting stuck rebuilding the FAT. If you are still having this problem, send me an email at and I will send you a debug version of Recover My Files.

Thank you.

If I save the files to disk and then stop the process will my files be ok? Will I be able to go back to this restore later and restore files if needed? Or when I press stop does the recovery go away and I have to run it again?

You an stop the searh and save your files. However once you close the program down the search results are lost and you will have to run the search again.

When we release version 4 we will add the ability to save a reload the search results.
