Unhappy xp administrative password protected files

My son fried my motherboard by moving my power cord from a UPI to a cheap power bar and it will cost more than the computer is worth to repair it. My hard drive is intact I have it in a hard drive shell with usb contection. My problem is that my computer had an administrative password on start up Windows xp and it won't let me access any of the data in my documents folder. I have tried tochange it to a shared file but it won't change. My computer store says the only way to access the files is to fix my computer. I also can't access the ms pubi**** file as the computer I am trying to use doesn't have publi**** I have lost orignial cd. I jsut want to save the file for when I purchase another publi****.Will data recovery work?
thnx Kim

Thumbs up Password Protected Files

hi
if you are using a windows xp pro machine hook your usb drive up and go to your my documents folder.
right click and go to sharing&security and click on"security" tab then "advanced"..
but a check in the two boxes at the bottom of the "permissions" tab.
click to the "owner" tab and place a check in the "replace owner on subcontainer and objects".
hit apply.
you will see the securitry settings change on your my documents folder.
you should now be able to access your documents.
i am not sure if this works on xp home as i am only familiar with xp-pro.
you might have to find a frien with an xp-pro machine to do this if xp home will not allow it to be done.
hope this helps.

ps.cannot wait for the new version of recover my files that allows the scan information to be saved.
need any beta testers Mr Henley???
