Hi, I'm new to the forum (post count 1) so I am unware of any rules that you may have about posting. As I could not find the rules I'll assume there aren't any.
I have ran Recover My Files on the "Format Recover" setting and completed a scan of the hard drive, the software showed me a folder tree of my harddrive in it's last known state before the format.. I clicked a check box that was associated with one of my folders i.e. Documents & Settings, and up popped; "Access Violatioin at address 00401D32 in module 'RecoverMyFiles.exe. Write of address 0000004C." Has anyone experienced this problem before? and if so would it be possible to share how you overcame the problem? Thanks in advance, ParaZym |

Hi,
It is difficult to say what caused this problem as it is most likely a specific corrupt file type. Please let me know what version of Recover My Files you are using, the latest release on our donwload page is 3.40, and exactly when the problem happens. However, first I suggest you try this new beta version, V3.50. http://download.getdata.com/3-50beta/recovermyfiles.exe . Try a "Fast Format Recover" and see if you get a better result.

Ok here's the story;
I was shuttingdown the other day and got bored with waiting so I just held the button in to turn it off. Upon next boot I was presented with the BSOD saying there was no mounted HDD. I paniced and thought; If I format and install windows I can use "Recover My Files" to get back my data, stupid i know, but thats what I did. Trying to recover my files like that took about 18hours and then crashed the computer, so I did what I should have done origionally and piggybacked the HDD onto one of my other computers. I now find my self running a "Fast Format Recover" (beta) but this appears to just index the HDD in it's current state, not displaying any of my folders prior to format. When running a "Complete Format Recover" the scan and files indexing takes but a few hours (3 - 4hours), when it finally finishes I find myself in "Folder View", Yay! I can see my folders that I lost during format.. But upon clicking the check box beside my folder "Server" I am presented with a rather ugly error which has been mensioned in my first post.I am conducting a "Complete Format Recover" on version 3.50(beta) as I type this, hopefully it wont display the error, but if it does I upload a screen shot. |

The new "Fast Format Recover" is used when your hard drive can no longer be seen by the computer (which is what happened in your case). However, if you subsequently format the drive (which is what you did), a Fast Format Recover will not work as it will only bring back the current partition files (which is what you describe).
We plan to improve the information on the main wizard screen to make this clearer. Version 3.50beta is actually a "debug" version. In your case there is an error that happens at the end of the search when you go to view the files. If the same error happens when using version 3.50 a debug window will appear and ask you to email the error report to GetData. Once we get this debug error report it will pinpoint the problem and we can have it fixed straight away.
