What file types can be recovered...
Almost all data recovery software programs only do one type of search. They look for deleted MFT records (Master File Table records). When your run a "Fast Search" using Recover My Files, this is what you are doing. You will notice that there is an "other deleted files folder" which contains all file types, including any .bin and .iso files that can be found. You can run a Fast Search in the the trial version and see if you can find them.
When you run a "Complete Search" with Recover My Files it first does a "Fast Search" so you still get the "other deleted files" folder, but then it also does a search for "lost files", that is, deleted files which are not referenced by an MFT record. It does this by recognizing the characteristics of a specific file type, such as the header, content and footer. Because the file and folder name are stored in the non-existent MFT record, Recover My Files makes the file name in a format like "Recovered_Word_1.doc" depending on the file types you selected in your search.
Because of the internal structure of .iso and .bin files it is not possible to add them to the "lost file" search.
The third type of recovery is a "Format Recover" which again uses deleted MFT records, but with a slightly different focus - ie. getting the full partition back.
I hope this helps.
