Hello,
Can you please tell me if this program can recover unreadable dynamic disks? I backed all of my files unto my second hard drive (logical drive 1) not knowing that it was a dynamic disk in Windows XP. After I reinstalled the OS on my first hard drive (logical drive 0) I can no longer access any of the data on the second hard drive (logical drive 1). It shows up in the Disk Mangement as a "Unreadable Dynamic Disk" and I can not assign a drive letter to it. What can I do? WIll your product help? |

Hi,
To recover an unreadable Dynamic Disk, download Recover My Files from http://www.recovermyfiles.com (or us this download link: http://download.getdata.com/RecoverMyFiles-Setup.exe). Run the program and start by trying a "Fast Format Recover". In the drive selection window, if you cannot see a drive letter you should still be able to locate the "physical disk" in the drive selection window - you booting drive is usually "physical disk 0", so if it is a secondary drive it should be listed as 'physical drive 1'. A Fast Format Recover should take less than 30 minutes to run. I will rebuild the file system, with full file and folder names, and display the results in "Folder View" of the results screen. Click on these file to preview their content in the preview window. A Fast Format Recover will not work in all situations - so you may need to follow up this search with a "Complete Format Recover". This is a longer search because it needs to scan the entire hard drive. Search the physical drive and search ONLY for the default selected file types. At the end of the search the program will rebuild the entire file system and show the results in "Folder View". Good Luck Last edited by GDH; 08-18-2007 at 11:25 PM. |

Which one of your above mention selections runs faster?
I am doing the Format Recover Option and it has been running for 8 hours and its only approx. 20 percent done. I should mention that this is a pc with an athlon 2600 and a 200 Gig Hard drive which is why I think its takins so long. At this rate it will take 36 hours just to get throught the initial scan and then recover the files. How long does it take to recover the files? I am relieved to at least see some files showing up in the scan (about 7,000 at this point) does this mean that I will be able to recover these files? If soI will be purchasing this product for sure ![]() Also one other question the PC I am using does not have network connection at this point... will I be able to register your product on a different computer and upgrade on the other without having to go through the whole scanning process again? Your help is appreciated. Last edited by terminaldawn; 02-12-2005 at 09:52 AM. |

Hi.
A 200 GB drive will obviously make the search take longer. When you selected the file types to search for, did you use the default selection? If you add more file types it will slow it down, particularly MP3 or TXT files which take up a lot of processing time (dont include MP3 or TXT files in a format recover). Because Recover My Files has already found 7000 files, it already has enough information to rebuild your lost partition. Whilst the search is still running, click on OPTIONS and the the FILE TYPES tab and take the tick out of all the selected file types so that there are none selected. Click OK and the search will continue and should now run faster as it is not looking for files, just partition information. It is important that you let the search go to the end because it is only at the end of the search that the Recovered Partition is rebuilt. You will see a folder called "Recovered Partiton" in the results screen and in here should be all your files. Dont close Recover My Files down, because when it is closed the search results are gone. You can purchase on another computer and then enter the key in the activation screen. |

Thanks for your help. My friend allready bought the software and we are waiting for the confirmation email.
One last question. I already stoped the scan a while ago to try some other things, but how many files are enough to gather a pattern to recover the partition? Thanks!! |

Unfortunately that is a complicated question. Recover My Files only really needs to find a hundred or so files to narrow down on the partition. But it must be run until the end in order to find all the partition records and then rebuild the entire partition.
Do you currently see the "Recovered_Partition" folder? Does it look like it contains most of your files? I think you will get much better results if you can let it run to the end or it may be easier for you to run a Complete Search for specific deleted files. |

You should be able to run a "Fast Format Recover" with Recover My Files version 3.96: http://download.getdata.com/RecoverMyFiles-Setup.exe to recover the entire partition. This search should take no more than 20 minutes.
If the "Fast Format Recover" does not bring your files back follow it up with a "Complete Format Recover".

hi, im following this procedure... after i tried first simply to recover files to do a simple search to see if my files were still readable on my "unreadable dynamic disc", pretty much all of my files showed up... (i waited till about 4000 files were found, and the program started finding almost immediately)
so then i went to fast format option... but its scanned for over 15 minutes with no files found... with the same types of files selected for searching. any ideas on what the problem may be? |

Yes, Recover My Files will recover an unreadable dynamic disk.
Please download Recover My Files from http://download.getdata.com/RecoverMyFiles-Setup.exe. First try a "Fast Format Recover" of the physical drive. It will take less than 20 minutes to run. If this does not work, next try a "Complete Format Recover" of the physical drive using only the default selected file types. At the end of the search (a lengthy search) it will rebuild the old file system and display the contents of the unreadable dynamic disk in the results screen. Click on the files to preview their content and if you like what you see then you can activate the program to save your recovered files.

Similar problem. Upgraded XP and lost dynamic 2nd physical drive. I ran the download version of RecoverMyFiles - and it found many. Here is the question though - I am pretty sure that I just lost the ability to recognize the disk instead of the disk being corrupted. Can RecoverMyFiles reestablish a connection to my F drive from my C drive? If so HOW?
