I can't get into my computer

Hi all.
It's a long story but This is short: When I start my computer I get the screen where it says (within so many seconds) start up in : Safe Mode - Normal Mode etc - I have clicked all of them and been taken to the same screen -
it's a blue screen with white text - saying that "Windows has detected a problem and needs to shut down your
computer to prevent further problems" and that's that!
I can't get into my computer (this is my Wifes).
I have got lots of information I need on my hard drive - how can I access it if I can't get passed Windows Start up??
I have tried several times and still I keep ending up on the Blue Page.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Take the problem drive and plug it into another computer as the secondary drive. You should then be able to copy your important files off it.
