I did a full recover of my hard drive which took days. Problem is a lot of files did not come up and my music files for example are really small...like 15 kb for example. Im wondering why this is and if it is even worth ti to save these files. I installed Windows Vista on my computer and reformatted the drive in the process and forgot to back up my old data. I was expecting more files to show up. Any help or comments would be appreciated.

Did you do a Format or a Quick Format when you were installing Vista?
What else has been done on the drive since you formatted & installed Vista? Have you been using it and installing programs etc? Were any of the files found previewable in the preview pane? |

I believe I did a quick format when i installed Vista but am unsure. I have installed some programs since I installed vista. They are all pretty standard programs such as microsoft office, limewire and an antivirus. Some files found by RMF were viewable but most pictures are not viewable and says that they are corrupt. I'm wondering if they will be viewable if I actually purchase. Also all my mp3's are very small files around 20k. Are the file sizes accurate? I have a lot of zip files found as well and am unsure what they are. I thought this program would do more. With RMF I did a complete format recover which took 5 whole days. I am considering getting the files but its not worth the price if none of these come out. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

The results won't be any different with the purchased product, the only difference is it will allow you to save your files.
It is possible that because after formatting the drive you have installed the operating system and programs that the sectors containing your files have been partially overwritten, preventing you from recovering them. I would recommend running a Complete File Search on the Physical drive (i.e. not the C drive, but Physical 0, assuming Physical 0 matches in size the drive you need to scan). This will be a long search, possibly around 24 hours, but it is your best chance of getting your files back. |

i am trying this type of recovery...it takes days on my computer unfortunately. If it says a picture of mine is corrupt and can not preview does that mean for sure it wont work if i purchase. It finds the file and the sizes seem right so thats why im wondering. Thanks.

Once you purchase the software you just enter the activation key and save your files - you do not have to run the scan again.
Once you have saved the files from you current search, you can run any number of further searches and save the search results.
