Default Can this software recover files with this extension .vol?

One of the computers in my school crashed, and before I advise them to buy this software I would like to know if the software is able to recover files with .vol extension because that computer was only used for this type of files.
Please let me know.

Thanks

Hi,

What program was used to create the .vol files?

What exactly happened in the crash?

I suggest you have them run the program in evaluation mode first (download it from http://download.getdata.com/RecoverMyFiles-Setup.exe).

If you let me know the answers to the above questions I will tell you the best type of search to run.

Thank you.

Thank you for your prompt reply.
The lost files were created with a software called Analyze 7.0
http://www.analyzedirect.com/

The computer has 5 hard disks, when they turned the computer on it gave them an error message asking them to choose a boot drive. So the system did not read the drive where the operating sysyem was installed. When they connected the hard disks to anothe computer, only one was readable, two were not recognised by the system and last two had corrupted files! When the .vol files were created, there was no compression involved.
Your help is appreciated

Thanks

You should be able to get them back.

First try a "Fast Format Recover". If you can no longer see the drive as a drive letter, select and search the "physical drive".

Were there any other file types on the drive other than .vol files?

Thank you for your reply,

Yes there were other file types on the drive, however they are not that important. The .vol files are very important and worth weeks of work! After running the fast recovery, will these files show with their original names or with alternative names?

Thanks,

If the Fast Format Recover works then you will get all your files back, including .vol files, with full file and folder names. Try the Fast Format Recover search in evaluation mode and then at the end of the search look in Folder View of the results screen for your files.

If the Fast Format Recover does not work, you will need to run a "Complete Foramt Recover". This is where the other file types that are on the drive become important, because if we can find the other files it helps find the .vol files. What were the other file types on the drive? How many of the other file types were there?

Tomorrow morning I will advice them to install the evaluation version of the software and run a fast recovery and we will see what will happen. The other files on the drive were .jpeg .tiff and few word and excel files the vol files were constructed from the jpeg and the tiff files. I will update you tomorrow about this problem.
Thank you for your help.

I also would like to mention that the 5 hard disks were in a RAID setup, will this complicate the problem?

Yes - RAID will cause a problem. If it is a stripped RAID then one file can be stored over multiple disks. The current version of Recover My Files does not have RAID support. It is a feature that we will include in version 4 of Recover My Files when it is released later this year.

You will have to look for RAID recovery software.
