RMF is a great peice of software for what it does however it could do some things better. Here are a few features that I'd like to see in future versions.
1. Unicode support I had quite a bit of files with Korean (hangul) letters in the filename and viewing/recovering these files RMF it's all '??????' in the filename and RMF seems unable to save these files. 2. Rename filename ability in search results This goes hand-in-hand with unicode support. Actually it could go in place of unicode support. When RMF tries to save the files I have that has some Korean letters I get this message: ''Cannot create file (insert file path). The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." The external drive I'm recovering from shows up My Computer but I cannot browse it so I cannot rename the files. It'd be great if RMF had a feature to rename files before recovering (like in the search results window). Or give the option of renaming files when the cannot create file error message pops up. 3. A Pause feature while saving files Recovering large files especially videos can be very resource intensive. I have anywhere from 80 to 99% of CPU usage while saving files with RMF. That leaves little resources to run other programs to continue my daily or important tasks. I have a couple hundred gigs of files to recover (mostly videos) so keeping this running all day long I can't do much of anything without fear of a freeze up. It'd be great to have a pause feature while saving so one could temporarily stop the recover process and run other software that might also resource intensive. |

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback... 1. Recover My Files has full unicode support. In fact, we have just finished a Korean version (let me know if you would like to test it). Saving of the file name in unicode is usually handled by Windows - we will have to look into this and see if we can replicate it here in the lab. 2. When you Save Files you can select the "Save Files As" (click on the down arrow next to the save files button). This will prompt you for a new name of each file - a bit of a pain when you are saving hundreds at a time. 3. If you stop the saving process it is just like a pause. Files that have been saved will have the selection ticks removed. The remaining files will still have the selection ticks, so you can just hit save again and continue. We are currently working of Version 4 of Recover My Files - it will have many new features. We hope this will be released in the second half of this year.

Thanks for your response! I'll use the save as feature. It might take some time but these are important files that I can't replace. My Korean skills are limited so if complete fluency in Korean is not needed I'd be happy to test the Korean version of this software.
