Question Partition M.I.A!

Hi.

I've got 2 physical HDDs.
One is divided into 2 partitions (40GB&130GB - C: & D: )
The other one was a single partition (287GB - E: )

When I reformatted the 40GB and reinstalled WinXPpro on it, something went wrong with the 287GB partition.
It just disappeared.

The disk itself shows up in diskpart and diskmgmt, but apparently it only contains unallocated data and there's no sign of any partition.

From what Altavista & Google have tought me, my best guess is that the Windows Installer messed with my HDDs MBR.

Is that something that this software could help straighten out?
If that's the case, how would i fix it?

If not I'll just try that DiskPatch from DIY.

Default Data Recovery

If the drive has important data on it then you should concentrate on getting it off before you do anything to try an "fix" the dirve ("fixing" the drive can sometimes make data recovery much more difficult if things dont go well).

Recover My Files is a data recovery tool - so use it to save what is important to you and then you can experiment with trying to fix the drive - or restart the partition from scratch.

I suggest you download Recover My Files and try a "Fast Format Recover" of the physical drive - this should get all your files back in less than 30 mintues. If this does not work, next try the "Complete Format Recover" option and search the physical drive for the default selected file types only.

You will be able to preview the files in the search results screen and if you like what you see you can activate the product and save files back to another drive. Make sure you look both in File View and Folder view of the search results screen for your files.

Good luck.

Thanks for replying.

Okey, I followed your advice and sure enough, there it is.
The complete partition in all its glory.

There's a ton of data on there that I want.
This is going to take a minor eternity to extract and burn off.

I was hoping for a quick fix.
I'll have to think it over

Haven't decided yet if i should go with DP or RMF.
I'll get back to you.
