Default Recovering duplicate files???

Hello,

I have been using Recover My Files for the past 4 days now. The first time that I ran the program I set the program to look for jpeg, tiff, bmp, gif and psd's, plus I was looking for all video files. The program was able to find a lot of files and I checked all the files in preview window before saving, I noticed there were a lot of duplicate image files and files listed as tiff were also listed as jpg, bmp, jpg, gif ect ect, the video files were listed the same way, files were listed as Mov,avi, or a windows format???
Is there a way to set the program so it does not keep listing the same files and so it list the proper file types??????????
I am running the latest version 3.98.................

Thank you for your time and help,
Darrell

Darrell,

These results seem very strange.

Can you please tell me how your data was lost in the first instance and what type of search you ran with RMF?

Thank you.

Hello GDH,

The HD that I am running my search on is a 30GB that I replaced about 3 years ago, at the time the OS was Windows 98SE and the system crashed, at the time my OS told me that the 30GB had a bad track, 01, or 00 I can not remember which one but I do know it could not be read. I put in a Seagate 70GB plus I installed Windows XP, I put the 30GB in the packaging that the Seagate was shipped in and put it away and waited for someone to make hardware so I could hook the drive up externally using a USB connection. Then I started looking for a program that would recover my files, and I located Recover My Files. My wife works with a Family Tree program and we lost all her research on the 30GB, I was able to recover some files using this software, however some images of files recovered show the same info listed on documents, as if the first entry on a family member doc was written over and over.....

Duplicate files can sometimes happen because the File Allocation Table makes duplicate copies of itself.

I think you should try running a "Complete File Search" of the "physical" drive. This will only find files by their header and footer - original file names will not be recovered.

See if this gives you better results, particularly for important files like the Family Tree ones.

GDH,

What is the best way to use this program? I have ran complete file search on this drive and it gives me a complete list of all the files that can be recovered, I can get a preview of some of the files, some are listed as to big for preview and some of the same video files are posted with different file types and so far the program has not been able to recover a video file that will play.

I have also ran complete formate recovery with almost the same results? Maybe I should run several searches looking for a single file type??
