Default File size error and program locks

I have two main problems. 1) File sizes that are recovered are waaaaay too big. The error message in the window is: Error: Filesizes do not match by: (some huge number and then sometimes it even has a negative sign in front of it) 2) Every time I do a format, when it gets to about the 62 ASF-WMV-WMA file, the program locks up. Have you run across this before? If so, what do I need to do?

Are you running Recover My Files? What is the build and version number in the HELP > ABOUT window?

How were your files lost and what type of search are you running with Recover My Files to find them?

I'm running the newest version of the Recovery Software. As for the background of what happened. I had a Windows 98 Machine that was using FATS that I upgraded to XP using the upgrade disk (not the full version). I added a secondary drive (the drive that went bad) which was formatted with NTFS. It worked great for a while and I was able to transfer and store data, but then there was an error. If I remember correctly, the error message said it had something to do with incompatible file systems (I'm presuming a conflict between FATS based operating system writing to an NTFS disk). The bad drive was not even recognized afterwards. This actually happened a while back and I used an earlier version of Recover My Files and got back all my files, but all the video files were only half recovered. The size is still the same, but when play all of them freeze almost exactly at the half point. I put the disk away due to lack of time and just figured I'd try it again later. Now that I have upgraded the version, I figured it'd do a better job. Instead, I'm getting files recovered that are waaaaaay to big and the job doesn't even finish getting stuck when it comes upon the 62nd avi file. Hope that's enough info to get me started in the right direction.

The first thing you should try is running a Fast Format Recover on the physical disk. This may quickly get all your files back.

Follow this up with a Complete Format Recover of physical drive for the default selected file types only, .doc, .xls. .ppt, .avi, .bmp, .avi, .pdf, .zip and check both "folder view" and "file view" for your files.

Please let me know how this goes.

I tried just running Fast Format Recover, but the same thing still happens. The files are still waaay too big (one of the files found is reporting 350gb, but my drive is only 160gb) and when it gets to about the 62nd avi file, the program locks up. A Complete Format recovery does the same thing.

Please confirm the version number of Recover My Files that you are currently using by looking in HELP>ABOUT. Click the UPDATE button to see if updates are available.

My running 3.98. Also, I did a Fast Recovery and I'm wondering what the output is suppose to look like. It finds one partition, but none of my files are there. There are however a bunch of other files. None are of any importance from what I can tell and they're very small (20kb). There are only like 7 files total.

The Fast Format Recover has not worked in our case.

Follow this up with a Complete Format Recover of physical drive for the default selected file types only, .doc, .xls. .ppt, .avi, .bmp, .avi, .pdf, .zip and check both "folder view" and "file view" for your files.

Complete format always locks up after I get to about the 62nd avi file. I tried taking avi off as a file to look for and it will go through all the way. It reports about 77 OS items, it even shows some wmv files, but only about 30 or so. I have over 300 I believe so it does not get all of those. I find more when the avi, wmv box is checked, but the program always locks up after the 62nd avi/wmv file found. Any suggestions?

I suggest you try running a "Complete File Search" for the specific file types you are looking for.

You may nned to experiment with this to see what type of results you get.

You can search different parts of the disk by first going to OPTIONS > ADVANCED and putting a tick in the box for "Prompt for start cluster...".
