Default 9 Hours and counting?

I am currently in the process of scanning an external hard drive that has been quick formatted for lost jpegs mainly but also word docs and such. I used the quick search options to no avail so I am now 9 hours into the complete format recovery search. While it appears that it is finding some files it seems to currently be stuck on an 'error reading sector xxxxx' mode and seems to be counting one by one. Is recovery hopeless at this point or do I just continue to let it scan until complete. pam8888

Hi,

What does the progress window currently say for "Files Found" and "OS Items" found?

Has the search gone past these bad sectors? or is it still slow?

How many file types did you include in the search?

So far it has found 1950 files - There is only data on the disk so zero 0/S

I only searched for the recommended I think it was 5 file types and yes it is still just counting almost one at time by sector with the message 'error reading sector XXXX' on each line of the event log and the 1950 number hasn't changed since noon today.

Recover My Files is having problems reading the disk. If this drive has been functioning OK in the past, then this is a little odd.

How do you have the drive connected to your computer? Is it via a USB or similar connection? If so, it may be possible that the power settings on your PC have told the drive to go to sleep. If it is an external drive, put your ear on it and let me know if you can hear the disks spinning - if not, then it is fast asleep.

You can also move the progress bar out of the way of the main program screen, and click on the files found so far to try and preview them - I think that if the drive is asleep it probably wont show the preview.

Let me know how this goes.
