Unhappy How do I recover mdb files?

I reformatted and reinstalled Windows - without saving my email (an mdb file). I've run the recovery and have found and saved to cd 6 access files, but how do I put them back together?

Default Data Recovery

Are you able to open the files with Microsoft Access? When you copy them off the CD, try changing the file properties to non read only.

Default Some progress with these mdb files...

I don't have Access, but I tried Open Office's Base - didn't work. I then used Avanstar's QuickView Plus and I can see the files, but most of them are non-sensical. I tried switching to a different text encoding (ASCII and Windows looked the best), but that wasn't much better. What I see are things like this:

Since these are supposed to be (I HOPE!) email files and/or folders, I may need to call Earthlink to get some help. However, when I first called them, they knew less than I! And there's a slight communication problem.

Any suggestions?
