I just did a full file search on a 250gb maxtor hard drive that has gone down for the second time. I am not sure that it was the same drive both times but I had the first one crash last year and searched it with RMF and got all my files back.
That time I saved all the recovered files I wanted to seperate dvd discs. I do remember that I got the folders and file names up on the search results that time. I must have because I did all my music files in alphepetic order on the dvds and it must have shown the names for me to do that. Anyway after the first crash I got the hard drive replaced through the manufactorers warrenty and they either fixed the old one or sent a refurbished replacement because a few months later and I have the same problem. That brings me to where I am now with it all. I have just searched the drive for more than a month, I had to start the search 2 times because windows randomly restarted the first time and killed the first almost done search. Anyway I let it go for like 4 more weeks and it just finished last night. My problem now is that all the files were found with no names and no folders, they all came up under lost files as the folder view and the only way to get some of the names is to highlight the files and check the window at the bottem beside the preview window. Now I guess there is no way to get the names now right? Also I think I am just going to save what I want to data dvd discs and lose the rest. The thing is I did one dvd and I dont think I did it right. How do I put the files to a data disc so I can acess the files from the dvd on my computer later? Also when I am done everything do you think its possable to just reformat the drive and start useing it again from scratch? It comes up as corrupted and it seems quite a few recovered video files are corrupted. Also Im not sure where I read it now but it said 'not a valad MTF' somewhere, I think in the event log the first time or something. Anyway it said the same thing the last time the drive crashed and it seems that just has to do with the partitions of the drive and not the drive itself. If thats the case I should be able to reformat and start useing again right? I ask because I dont know if I can get the drive replaced again although the replacement only lasted like 4 months the last time. If the warrenty is gone I may be stuck with it and if thats the way it is I would like to use it still. Is there any point in doing a full format recovery after I get the files I want saved? I did a quick format recover and had no luck. Thats all for now. Please get back to me when you can and thanks for your time. |

Hi,
Even the most complex search with Recover My Files should not take more than 24 hours to run. Please make sure you are using the latest version of Recover My Files which is available at www.recovermyfiles.com or by clicking the UPDATE button on the main program screen. You should first try the "Fast Format Recover" and search the "physical drive". IF the the Fast Format Recover does not work, next try the "Complete Format Recover" and search the physical drive. In the file type selection window, search ONLY for the default selected file types, .doc, .xls, .ppt, .bmp, .avi, .jpeg, .wav, .pdf, .zip. Recover My Files is not a drive repair program. You must save files to another drive, or CD or DVD. Once you have saved all possible data, then you can reformat the problem drive and start again.

well my pc is old and kind of slow anyway but besides that I did check all the video and music file types as well as zip files which came up as like 40GB of files itself. Im guessing thats what made it run for 4 weeks.
Anyway what about the file names question? Also how do I set up the dvd burning to do data dvds that I can view on my pc later. I want to do like a few mp3 data dvds and mpeg dvds etc.. If they are done right the mp3 ones should be viewable on my dvd player. How do i set it up to burn dvds the way I want them to turn out. Im not sure if there were anymore questions in the first post. |

did you even read my first post because it seems you gave me a ******* reply that you give everyone.
The main question was how do I make dvd discs with the files that will read as data discs and not iso's? I have had my pc on for a month or more and now I justt want to salvage what I can to data discs so let me know. The first disc I did with the settings the way they are looks like it is full but blank. I dont see any files on it. |

The CD and DVD function in Recover My Files is a standard burning function so the disk should read.
It is possible that the session did not close properly, which is why you cannot read from the DVD. Also, we sometimes see this problem with +R disks (although it is rare). If you have a -R, I suggest you try this to see if it solves the issue.

the second one i did came out the same. it says there is zero free space and zero used space on the disc and when i open it there are no files.
i noticed there are a few different iso settings, could i have it set up wrong? The way the cd/dvd options are set up now are.... the file system type is - iso 9660 / *****t the file system options are - iso level 2 and previous session has ' import last track ' checked. Is this all right or does something need to be changed? Last edited by dr_sillyfresh; 01-09-2008 at 06:36 PM. |

also can I update the program right now with my results from the scan up still make it lose my recovered files?
Also I only have about 1gb out of 16gb on the main hard drive I am running everything off of right now, does RMF need more space than that to have the cd/dvd function work? Last edited by dr_sillyfresh; 01-09-2008 at 06:41 PM. |

It is difficult to say why the DVD is not burning properly on your system. Do you have another drive of any kind, such as a USB stick, so that you can test if files are saving properly to it?
To update the program, Recover My Files needs to close and your current search results will be lost. You will need to run the search again after the update.
