Bad sector or virus

On my external EACTUALLY an INTERNAL) has all my data on it and now lots of pixs says preview not available, videos have gone to 0 bytes, music won't play and program files won't open, uninstallation files are missing is this cause of bad sector or virus how do i fix this and get my data back please help me

Download Recover My Files from www.recovermyfiles.com and run a Fast Format Recover on the physical drive to see if it will find and display your files.

If a Fast Format Recover does not work, next try a Complete Format Recover of the physical drive and search only for the default selected file types. This will confirm if all your data is recoverable.
