I have a 181GB partition which had a partition error, I had to repartition the drive. I have used recovermyfiles (Complete Format Recovery) to find all of the files from the drive (apparently the MFT is in okay shape), but I am running into a problem trying to save all of these recoverable files. I have a 250GB external drive attached to the system. I was figuring that I would have to save the files there, before reinstalling windows, etc. I have been unable to do anything but to try to "save as" the files in the file view window, a folder of files at a time. This is a very laborious process.
Can't I just save all of the folders that have been found? (sure would be nice to just save them back on "C" .... Last edited by nspils; 02-05-2008 at 12:52 PM. |

Hi,
Yes, you can do that. Don't use the "Save As" function, or the program will prompt you to enter a new file name for each file. Just click directly on the SAVE button (not the drop down list) and then you will be prompted for a location to save all files in one go.

Hi,
If you are saving files from the "Folder View" window of Recover My Files then any file and folder structure that you see here will be saved into the location that you select.

The problem I seem to be having is that I am not given the opportunity to actually select a location to save the files. The dialog box comes up but nothing is presented in the box - no locations are provided for me to choose from.

This sounds very odd (i have not heard of it before), and I am not quite sure how to solve this problem. It it possible that you have a USB drive that has gone to sleep? - it may be stopping the folder list to show in the box?
Can you see if you can save some sample files to a CD or DVD - use the drop down arrow next to the Save Files button. Then go back and check the SAVE button to see if this has made a difference. Thank you.

I was able to save to CD. This did not initialize my ability to select a destination with the "Save" choice - all I get is a dialog box with a title "Browse for Folder", and the message "Select Folder" in the top left corner and two buttons (OK and Cancel) at the bottom right corner of the dialog. No pane for a directory tree or folder view, or any other change to the center of the dialog box. Is there some external functionality which is not being called?
