Okay...
I have configured Word to save the 'autosave' files in the same directory as the working file. I SAW these files there in Explorer -- all about 70 MB! Upon exiting Word, it deletes these files. I corrupted the working file (and overwrote the backup before realizing it was corrupt). (Yes, it was backed up!) RMP gets _amazing_ reviews, but I cannot figure out how to have it search for *.tmp files. Thanks, Roy Jensen On a related note, other recovery software seem to completely miss the directory, entitled 'TRANSFER' ![]() |

Hi,
To find Word Temp files (.tmp), you should try the following: Run Recover My Files and in the first wizard window select "Complete File Search". Click Next. In the drive selection window, you should see under "Folders to Search (for active or temporary files)" your C:\Recycler and the Documents and Settings folder for your user login. Put a tick next to both of these. [The reason you do this is that many of the .tmp files are hidden, and not deleted, so you need to search the "active" files under you login profile]. Also put a tick in the box next to your C:\ drive, as this will search the "free space" on your drive looking for files. Click Next. In the file selection window, put a tick in the box next to "Microsoft Word Document" and also "Unknown OLE". Click "Start". This search should find all Microsoft Word TMP files on your drive. If you do not find your files with the above search, you may want to try a new search and this time in the drive selection window double click on the "Add folder to search" text and select your "Documents and Settings" folder. This will search the entire folder structure for TMP files - just in case the temp files are being stored in a folder that is not directly under your profile. I hope this helps.
