Hello,

However I went back in to the search to find more movies that I know I dont have and it found over 30 however I saved them to disk and computer and they wont play. It gives me error 2048. I uninstalled quicktime and reinstalled but it wont play the recovered ones. Im confused. Can you please help!!!! |

Please provide more information. What type of media are you searching? How were the movies lost?

My computer went through a system recovery that HP directed and lost all my files. I was able to get back alot of pictures and movies. Last week I tried just searching for movies because I know there are alot I am not seeing. It found more than 30 and they are named recovered_movie_43 (example). They are movie files from my kodak camera and they wont play at all. I usually view them in quicktime and I am not sure if there is something I can do to view or if that just means all 30+ are unretrievable

The files that have names starting with "Recovered...." are found by searching for the header and footer of the file. With movie files, because they are so large, they are usually fragmented or can be easily overwritten and corrupted. This is which they ones that you have found with names like this do not play.
You best option is to run a "Complete Format Recover" of the drive letter. Search only for the default selected file types, .doc, .xls, .ppt, .avi, .jpeg, .bmp, .pdf, .zip. Don't add movie file types to the search, you don't need to as it will just slow the search down. A the end of the search look in Folder View of the results screen for your files. You should see the full file and folder structure here.

Search the drive letter on which the files were lost.
