I tried to move my Western Digital 160GB drive from a USB external enclosure being used as a data backup - no operating system, into a new computer as a slave. When it wasn't recognized in windows XP, I mistakenly used the WD Lifeguard Tools program to "add a second drive to an existing computer" - without warning, it started "creating partition", which I stopped immediately. Now the drive is recognized, but it's empty !! Is this a problem for RMF, or will some other solution work ?

You should get all your data back. It is difficult to tell how much of the original partition information has been damaged so you may not get all files back with their full names.
Please download Recover My Files from www.recovermyfiles.com. First try a "Fast Format Recover" (about 20 min to run), then try a "Complete Format Recover" (1 to 4 hours to run - search the physical drive and only for the default selected file types). If you do not get good results, then try a "Complete File Search" for specific file types. Please let us know how you get on. Thank you.

It looks like I got the majority of my data files back - about 38GB of the 40GB I believe were on the drive ! It took about 9 hours on a 3.2GHz machine, using the "Complete Format Recover". Some directories and file names could not be restored, but I'm very pleased with the results.
Great program!! And fast support -- Thanks again, GDH Gary |
