Help - desperate! I had problems with Windows XP, but my accounting software was OK. Asked someone to save my accounting programme and the back up data files (data updates) listed by the software programme as *SBB (Simply Books) files. The idiot only saved the programme shortcut to desktop on floppy. I felt reassured by the floppy, thinking I had a copy of the *SBB files but when Windows XP was reinstalled and then the accounting software reinstalled, no back up files *SBB on floppy but just the shortcut!
I have now lost 3 years of data. Has the reinstallation of the accounting software (with the *SBB) files overwritten the original *SBB files? Is there any way of getting hold of the older *SBB files which existed before the reinstallation of Windows XP and accounting software? I am desperate as I work for a charity for people with an Autism and kept only backing up on the computer. I felt reassured when given a copy of the floppy so agreeed for reinstallation of XP and the accounting software. |

There is a possibility that you will get back your .ssb files.
You need to download Recover My Files, version 3.73, from www.recovermyfiles.com. If the deleted files were on your C: drive then there is a small risk that installing software on your computer will overwrite and destroy information that you want to get back. However, you have already installed an entire operating system (about 300mb) so you may conlude that another 6mb or Recover My Files is a small risk. You can run Recover My Files directly from CD. Download and install the program on another computer, and then copy the contents of the C:\program files\Recover My Files folder to a CD. Then run the recovermyfiles.exe file on the CD. You need to run a "Complete Format Recover" of the new drive letter. In the file type selection list, do not add any more file types, just use the default selection. Let the search run all the way, and at the end it will rebuild your old partition. In the results screen you can search in Folder View for your .ssb files. You will get back everything that was not overwritten by the new installation (or subsequent writing to the hard disk). It is not possible to tell what has been overwritten until you run the search.

Sorry for the delay - changed to a new ISP provider and service only recently initiated.
I am still desperate! I have 100's of saved zipfiles of the financial data of "Simply Books" Programme - the financial database - this volume presumably represents each time I updated the financial database records. Some show corrupted - a few not - but still can't open them even using unzip wizard programme. The back up files on the programme used to be saved as "sbb" file extensions. I have one saved as "sbd" - presumably redesignated and another as "turbo-tax" - an american financial database? I only need one opened and printed off! - so I can re-enter manually if necessary the data going back 3 years. Please help. Will forward saved zip files as suggested. thanks. |
