WD My Book 500GB data recovery needed

I have a Western Digital 500 GB My Book that all of a sudden keeps giving me an error that says "the drive is corrupt and unreadable". The computer recognizes the drive, but anytime I try to access the drive, I get this error. Also, when the drive is on and connected to the computer, it causes everything to run very, very slow. I bought a new hard drive enclosure and switched the hard drive to the new enclosure, but it is doing the same thing with the same error. The My Book seemed like it was constantly turning on and off. I really need to get my data back...any suggestions anyone has would be greatly appreciated! I want to see if I can recover this data myself. Most of the data is pictures and mp3's. Thanks for any replies!

Run a Fast Format Recover. In the drive selection window, do you see it listed as a "physical" drive?

Hi! It does not show "My Book" like it used to, now it is just listed as "Local Drive L:". I haven't downloaded the Recover My Files, yet, though.
