Default recovered all my folders but no useful files

Hi,
the programme recovered all of my folders down to tree levels but I can't run a single file. I have quite a number of PDFs, mp3 and avi's and many other files >>> my life collection. the hard disk they were on was accidentally formatted and a quick NTFS format partition was created. What am I missing here?

Thanks,
Ahmed

Default Data Recovery

Hi,

Did you follow the instructions here for recovering your files?: How to recover a formatted hard drive

There are a few different possible explanations...
  • When you are in the Recover My Files results window, can you preview the files in the preview window? If you could preview them, then it is not a recovery error, but a saving error. In this case it is possible that your drive went to sleep before you saved the files.

Download Explorer View for Windows Explorer from http://download.getdata.com/ExplorerView-Setup.exe and use this program to check what data is inside the saved files. If the files have 0's in them, then you can confirm it is a saving problem.
  • It is possible that your old Master File Table has been screwed up and that the records no longer point to the correct data. What are the results like in "File Type View" - can you preview file here? These ones are found by identifiying the header and the footer of the file so they should be fine.

When you are in the Recover My Files results window, can you preview the files in the preview window?
