Hi everyone, please help. I have a one year old 80g ipod. with about 40gig of music & videos in it. One day I turn it on and it was empty!! the menus & operating system seems fine but it has no music or anything in it, like it has been reset or something??... I can only think of 2 theorys, I've left it connected to my computer & when the computer reboots, it may have ran scandisk on the ipod & messed it up or.... I remember putting the ipod in my pocket next to my cel phone & I've heard that cel phone micro-waves could be very damaging when it rings....
I came across this program--GetData-recovery my files-demo ver. I'm running it right now on "complete scan" (fast scan did not work). scanning so far for 17 hours, it shows about 25% complete & it says it found 23k files... so I got about 3 more days to go at this rate... I think I've read that if everything goes well, it recovers the files to my hard drive 1st then I would have to load it back into the ipod. my question is, before I pay the $60, would the recovered mp3's still have all the modified infos/tags on it? infos that I've spent hundreds of hours organizing such as album arts, corrected artists, song names, genre, lyrics... etcs? (I know I'm nuts). I still have back ups of all my music spread between 3 computers. I will gladly pay $60 if I don't have to mess with the reloading the album arts & the renaming... etc thanks for listening. |

Hi,
Yes, the iPod files contain the meta tags which are read by iTunes when you re-import the data recovery results. Follow these instructions to recover deleted ipod files: 1. Run Recover My Files (Data Recovery Software to Undelete Files; Disk recovery; Recover Deleted Files) and select "Complete Format Recover". Click Next. 2. In the drive selection window, put a tick in the selection box for the "physical" iPod drive (you can identify which one it is by the displayed size). Click Next. 3. In the File Type selection window, leave the default file types selected (.bmp, .jpeg, .xls, .ppt, .doc, .pdf, .zip, .wav) but also add under the MultiMedia group also select "iTunes Audio File" and "MP3 Music File". Start the search. At the end of the search look in "Folder View" for your recovered files. You should find them in a folders called "iPod Controls > Music > F00, F01, F02 and so forth. These are your music files. They are not organized in a any particular fashion within these folders (you can organize them later). When you find what you are looking for, put a tick next to the file or folder to mark it to be saved (you can see the total number and volume of files selected in the bottom bar of the main program screen). To select groups of files, hold down the SHIFT or CTRL key, highlight the files with your mouse, and then press the SPACE BAR to turn the ticks on (or off). 4. From "Folder View" of the Recover My Files results screen, save the contents of the "Music" folder to your hard drive or whatever other device you choose. 5. After you have saved the files your files from iPod into your Computer you can see that all files are labeled with 4 letter file name. You cannot understand which file is for which Song because all information is hidden into the file. But do not worried about that because you can play them in Itunes, Winamp, Windows Media Player or QuickTime and then you can see all information such as Album Name and Singer. Once you have the files saved on your computer, you can re-import them into iTunes using the "File" or "Folder" > Import function in iTunes.

Hi GDH, thanks for replying
Does it matter if I've chosen "complete scan"(2nd choice out of 4) & not the "complete format recovery" like you mentioned? It's been scanning for 45 hours & looks like about 66% done. I'd hate to start over if I don't have to.. |

Hi,
The search should not run for this long, so your iPod may have gone to sleep? You can continue the current search if you wish, but I suggest that once it is finished and you have saved the results you also try the search I have described.

thanks for helping. Guess my 80g ipod was beyond help. I rescanned again with the exact instructions above.... took 4 days to complete the scan. I was excited when it found over a thousand songs. but turns out all were bits & parts of songs, some played & most didn't. Thought I share my experience.

Your are welcome to send the drive to us if you would like us to take a look. The cost is the same as the price of the software. Send and email to support@getdata.com and let us know if you would like to pursue this option.
Thank you.

Hi,
Put your ipod into disk mode. Apple instructions are located here: Putting iPod into Disk Mode Then download Recover My Files from Data Recovery Software to Undelete Files; Disk recovery; Recover Deleted Files. Run a "Complete File Search" on the iPod drive letter for the .wav file type. You should be able to find them this way.
