Recovered files from recover my files in different formatand not readable

I accidently formatted my entire harddrive while restoring windows xp. All the partitions merged and i lost all data. I downloaed the software "recover my file" and did full recovery. i could see all my files recovered but when i try to open any msoffice or mp3 or jpeg files i see something else. i canot open any files although i could see the names of all files recovered. Is there any way to recover them?

I did exactly what is mentioned there. I did complete search. It took around 3 hrs. After that files were build. After that i saved the files. But i saved those files in the same hard disk thinking that files were recovered.I can see all thr file names correctly but they are not opening in correct format. I am most interested in recovering my excel, word and ppt files.
