I had a COMPAQ Presario running windows 98. The disk crashed and was unable to boot.
I have recovered my personal file folder to an external hard drive, but am unable to access the files or sub-folders. "x is not available" Access Denied. Is there any way to access the information in the old folders? |

Did you have password protection or encryption turned on?
If you are currently logged in as administrator, are you able to right click and use the PROPERTIES > SECURITY tab to take ownership of this recovered folder?

Are you able to copy the files to your C: drive and try?
If you type "take ownership of folder windows XP" you will find a whole bunch of suggestions on this topic.
