Default The File Type I Need Recovered Is Not Supported

Hi Get Data

I have purchased your product to find out that the file type i need recovered is not listed "Steinberg Cubase SX3 = *.cpr". I have made several complete format recovery attempts with different peramitters to no avail.

The drive in question is my 2nd HDD a 500GB WD internal with four partions, i have searched the whole drive, additionally the partion in particular which was formatted =( to no avail.

Also the wave = *.wav files or folders recovered are not named as the where, which is a rather annoying as this data was use for music production.

Do you have any advice for me?

Hi,

Run this test to see if Recover My Files recognizes .cpr files as another type.

Place some cpr files in a folder called C:\TEST.

Now run Recover My Files and select "Complete File Search". Click NEXT.

In the drive selection window, click on "add folder to search" and add the C:\TEST folder. Once added, tick it, click NEXT, and continue past the message about not drive selected to be searched.

In the file type selection window, select every file type (put a tick in the box next to the group heading - i.e. Documents, so that all types are selected).

Now run the search. In the results screen, do you see the .cpr files listed as another type?

Default Test results

Hi

thanks for getting back to me,

I try you suggestion, however this did not work as the the file type *.cpr was not recognized at all.

To further your idea i created a wave file *.wav and changed it's extention to .cpr and added this new file to the same "test" folder, the new file with the changed extention was found with format "wave file".

So does this mean your product cannot find *.cpr files?

Do you have any further tips or advice?

Hi,

Send us some sample files at support@getdata.com and if it is an easy file format we may be able to add it to the software.

Thank you.

Default CPR files

Hi,

They are RIFF files.

You need to run a Complete File Search for the RIFF file type which is in the multimedia section.

When you save any found files, you may be required to rename the extension back to .cpr

Good luck.

Default I need a little more Luck please

Hi
I ran the search and recovered 153 RIFF files, the recovery status within the search windows read "unknown". I saved the results and had to change the extension to .cpr, however upon open the files i get an error messsage "invalid project file".

Can you help?

Hi,

The RIFF file structure is used by many different applications, so all the RIFF files that you have recovered may not necessarily be your .cpr files.

If you download Explorer View for Windows explorer here: http://download.getdata.com/ExplorerView-Setup.exe you will be able to look inside the saved files and examine the file header in HEX view. Your valid CPR files start with a header that looks something like this:

RIFF..I>NUNDROOT.......Arrangement1....PArrangment ARCH etc.

The problem is, not knowing how the CPR application works, I do not know what makes a valid project file? e.g. does the program rely on 2 or 3 interlinked files before it determines that it is valid.

Unless you have a sound understanding of how the CPR program works and creates files, it will be very difficult to get these files working again.

Default Wave files

Hi,
Using the http://download.getdata.com/ExplorerView-Setup.exe
I was able to determin that the 153 RIFF file are really wave files.
They all start very variants of the following:

RIFF ..WAVEfmt ....

I also viewed the sample .cpr i emailed to you for a com*****on, which help me understand you earlier reply,

"RIFF..I>NUNDROOT.......Arrangement1....PArrangmen t ARCH etc."

Do you think should perform a Complete Format Recovery of RIFF files?

Thankyou

EDIT: I changed the file extension of the RIFF file to .wav and they play, meaning i hear sound, so that also comfirms that there are wave files.

Default Data Recovery

In your situation, there are two basic data recovery techniques:

Look for the old Master File Table, rebuild it and hope that the cpr files are still listed. This is what the "Complete Format Recover" does. You could try running a Complete Format Recover search over the entire drive for the default selected file types plus the RIFF file type - but I think you have already done this? - and look for your cpr files in "Folder View" of the results screen.

A by product of the above search is that files found and listed in "File Type View" of the search results screen are found by identifying the file header and footer - these are the files without original names (as file names are only stored in the MFT), i.e. Recovered_RIFF_1.
