Default Recover information off of an external hard drive

My iPod Video recently broke down so i decided to take the hard drive out of it. I purchased a enclosure for the drive and all parts are in working condition. I connected it to my computer, Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. The drivers installed on both of them but it doesnt show up on 'My Computer'. i went into Disk Management and it shows up in there as not initialized and unallocated. I attempted to initialize it but it comes up with an error message 'the request could not be performed because of an i/o device error'. I really need to recover all of the files on there because there are 800+ songs on it that are not on my computer anymore and i am getting a new iPod for Christmas. The hard drive is a Toshiba MK8010GAH 1.8" with a ZIF connection (80gb). Can somebody please help me?

thank you,
Philswitch3ngage

Default Data Recovery

Hi,

Download and run Recover My Files from http://download.getdata.com/RecoverMyFiles-Setup.exe

Run a Complete Format Recover and click NEXT.

In the drive selection window, do you see the "physical" ipod drive listed? (you should be able to tell which one it is by the displayed drive size).

If you see it, run the search for the default select file types, but also add the Itunes file type and MP3.

Default Data Recovery

If you are happy that you have recovered all your files and you have checked that they are saved and working ok, then you can try and play around with the drive to get it to be recognized.

Try again to Reset the drive using iTunes.

Or are you able to put the drive into Disk Mode? If you get it into disk mode, can you then try and reset it?
