Default turned off power and now data is gone

I have an Lacie 250gb external HD that I turned off the other and day and when I turned it back on I get the following error.
"The drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive /device/Harddisk2/DR23 and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed."

I pulled it out of the case and tried with new power source and get the drive to show up on my computer, but there is 0gb used and 0gb available.

Can this be recovered?

Thats a strange error - I have only seen it with CD/DVD drives before (i.e. the CD/DVD drive door is open).

Make sure somehow your system did not get screwed up and mix the CD/DVD with the drive? Is your CD/DVD a USB?

Can you hear the drive spinning OK? Does the light come on?

No usb cd/dvd, The light does come on the drive but flickers. I tried it in another case, and even in the PC, and that's when I can see it on my computer with 0gb available and 0gb used....

Unless you can find a way to get your pc to recognize the physical capacity of the disk, then you only option will be a hardware recovery service.
