Recover DSS Voice Files Problem

I am trying to recover deleted dss format voice files from an 256 MB xD Picture card. There would be over 1000 files that have been created and deleted off the card over the years from the same folder on the card (DSS_FLDA). I am looking to recover files created in early January 2009. When I run the program using Complete File Search I am able to recover about 85 files total, about 43 in the DSS_FLDA folder and 42 in the Lost Files folder. From listening to the files, the files in each folder are the same files.

The recovered files in the DSS_FLDA folder include about 20 files from 2006 (probably when the card was first used) and the 20 most recent files back to January 20, 2009, but nothing in between. The total size of the files in the DSS_FLDA folder is 104 MB. The files in the Lost Files folder, which are each labeled "Recovered_Digital Speech_#41-82.DSS total 7 GB of files.

Is there anything else I can do to recover the files I am looking for?

Hi Steve,

Were all the files deleted at once? Or have they been deleted over time?

When they have been deleted over time, some will have been overwritten and destroyed by the new data being recored to the device.

It may be that it is possible to get some more files back.

The best thing to do would be to take an image of the card, Zip it, and then upload it to us so that we can take a look. If you want to do this, contact support@getdata.com for instructions.

Yes in general, the files would have been deleted over time as the voice files on the card are transferred to a computer hard drive. Unfortunately, the computer hard drive crashed and had to be completely reimaged. I was hoping to recover the files recorded during the week of January 5 from the card but can only retrieve files back to January 20. As I mentioned I can also retrieve about 20 files from 2006.

I will contact support for instructions on making an image of the card.
