I still have some floppies from my Canon Star Jet 300 word processor with files I'd like to salvage. While I could just use the Canon to export these files to MS-DOS compatible text files, I'd like to try to do this with the PC as practice for salvaging even older files from a Panasonic WP.
The problem here is this... while the disks are formatted as FAT32, the PC can only find the exported TXT files. Judging by the disk’s properties, a disk could be half full of files... and checking it in the Canon shows there are readable files there, but the PC can't find them. Which raises the question why doesn't the PC recognize them even if it lacks the software to open them? I’ve used recovery software like Recover My Data with the search for deleted/lost files option both checked and UNchecked, but it doesn’t find them either. Any ideas? Thanks! I tried some other settings in Restore My Data and I did start to find some files. But it's not clear yet whether I'm getting files that were once deleted or the files written by the Canon that just don't show up on the PC. Perhaps those files are just not indexed in a way that Windows can find them.

Hi,
The best thing to do would be to go to GetData Download Center: Data Recovery, File Repair and Windows Software were you will find a program called EzyImager. Use this program to take an image of the floppy disks and store them as a file on your PC. Then email the file to support@getdata.com and I will take a look. Thank you.

Hi,
I had used a driver fdread from the DOS program FDFORMAT. With FDREAD I had read diskette 3.5" from Canon formatted as standard 5.24" diskette. FDREAD is usable under Windows 3.1, 95, 98, XP. Not tested with Vista. This is a standard format for diskette but in 5.25" not in 3.5" as used by Canon. Last edited by Prunelle24; 03-05-2009 at 02:45 AM. |
