Hi
Can you still see this drive as a drive letter? Does it still have any files on it that you can see in Windows Explorer? Are you able to see any files called CHKDSK?

i can see it as a drive letter which is H:
it has some files in it but not those that are deleted so therefore drive space is freed almost 82 Gigabytes... the important files were the .rar ones which I'm so worried of... there are no files are in the filename of: CHKDSK when I explore that drive... I've also installed recover my files software now and started searching deleted files.. i clicked on search deep tab... its still on progress (its taking too long) and some files are actually found which are those .rar (with name of Recovered_Rar_1, 2, 3, 4) ones but all of them are of 1kb size?!?!... I would start by fist trying a Complete File Search of the drive letter for just the rar file type.

right
i can get the files back (by downloading them from the internet (a very long procedure), getdata's file recovery doesn't seem to cure the problem as i said above rar's are found but of 1kb size?!?!) but all i want to know is that, is this the first case? i mean how can a scandisk delete files from my NTFS portable's drive? how can i avoid this warning i mean what if this happens next time? Are they 1kb when you find them? or when you save them?

When I found them. I had 5 'important' .rar files on that HDD which were gone and the others were Mp3's...
Also the scandisk which ran on that protable HDD wasn't rare, on the display it showed 'deleting orphaned file index' approx. 50,000 times, if I recall correctly... So therefore when WinXP started and I checked that hdd's capacity, 80 GB was gone... ![]() Last edited by beelaal85; 03-03-2009 at 03:46 PM. |
