Recovey of My WD portable hard drive

Hello friends
I have a WD portable hard drive which was connected through USB to my labtop when i was re installing windows XP on my labtop.
Right now I can not see My portable hard drive when I open my computer folder. I have so many important document on my hard drive.
Is there any way to recover my information. Is there any way to see my portable hard drive icon in my computer icon?

Hi,

Right click on the My Computer icon, and select Manage, then Disk Management.

You should be able to see the problem drive listed as a physical disk with the correct size displayed.

If you can see the drive here then you should be able to recover the files from it.
