Hi all,
I have a 400 gb hardisk that I had problems with. Everytime I would copy something to it , it would freeze. I ran a CHKDSK and loaded to windows. If I click on the drive it does not crash but it tells me that the hardisk has not been formatted (and is not NTFS or FAT or anything) and I can not see any files. Should I run a file or format search? Should I format the drive as NTFS? Also should I search the physical drive or the option with the partition of the drive? In addition, after running a complete format and file search (not until 100 % done) all of the files found are named recovered document and then a number. After running a search will I then have to filter it? The issue os that the hardrive is 400 gb, its one big partition and all of this takes time. Is there a better solution? In the 400gb hardrive I am just looking for a folder named notes with some notepads. The folder is no more than 20 MB.Also the software doesn't seem to be able to build the folders of the drive. Thanks, Eric Last edited by DaProphet92; 06-29-2009 at 09:53 PM. |

Hi,
Sorry for the delay in responding to you. The forum spammers had killed my post notification messages. Don't format the drive. Use Recover My Files (Data Recovery Software to Undelete Files; Disk recovery; Recover Deleted Files) to run a Complete Format Recover on the drive. Follow the instructions in the first sticky post of this forum (how to recover a formatted drive), searching only for the default file types and stopping the search when OS items gets high and stable. If you do not find OS items it means that the old Master File Table has been destroyed, and you will only find files by their header & footer - which are the ones called "Recovered_Filetype_x" Good luck.
