I copied images from a memory card to a USB and deleted them from the memory card because it was full and I wanted to use it. I downloaded a Linux booting file to the USB, which destroyed the images. I have managed to recover them but many of the images can not be displayed in any program. In some programs the message "unsupported file type" or something like that comes up even though they are JPEG files. The ones that cannot be displayed are the newest images. (I have also tried to recover from the USB but no images were found). What do I have to do to repair the images?

Hi,
How big is the USB? How big is the Linux file that you downloaded to it? If the file was almost as big as the drive, then you will have overwritten and destroyed all most all files on it. A good free program for viewing slightly corrupt image files is irfanview.

The USB is 2GB. I think that the downloading of the Ubuntu booting file systematically destroyed the previous files, as they were all destroyed. They can not be found using any program from the USB.
Irfanview can not show the images. It, like many other programs, says that it is a wrong file type, even though it is clearly JPG. |

Hi,
How big was the file that you put on your 2gb drive? Download and install Explorer View for Windows Explorer from http://download.getdata.com/ExplorerView-Setup.exe. It is a file viewer and will view about 300 different file types. It also lets you change the view to HEX, so you will be able to look inside these recovered files and see what their content is - compare them to a working jpeg. The lowest level search you can run with Recover My Files is a "Complete File Search" on the physical drive. Try this and see if you get any photos back - they will not have their original names.
