My hard drive crashed and I went through a data recovery group that seemingly recovered all files. Except that the fcp files won't open. It says: File error: wrong type. Under GET INFO the files are opening by default to final cut pro. However, they will not actually open. It launches final cut when you click to open a project but then the error message reads: file error: wrong type. All other files were recovered perfectly. movie files, photos, word documents, etc.
I am working on a Mac OS X. with the latest version of final cut pro updated. Has anyone had this problem or are there any suggestions? |

I had the exact same thing happen. A couple hundred dollars retrieved many files and back up files, but they all gave the same error. It seems it would take a software engineer to find out why the file won't open. Mine was a 2 TB drive, which had two disks working as one, apparently the one disk that failed caused the files which are saved on both to be corrupt. Maybe. An ounce of backup is worth a ton of cure. I had original files backed up, but not the more recent fcp edit files. If you happened to save your autosave files to a different drive, you may be able to get a final cut file that works from there.
