Hi,
I recently installed iTunes on my new ASUS desktop. I had iTunes installed on my old laptop, but i always used an external HD to store my library. The idea was to install the program onto my new computer and copy over my library from the external HD onto the new computer's internal HD (almost a TB of space). Simple - right? wrong not the way my summer has been going - LOL! Anyway after installing iTunes, i opened it expecting to see a blank slate, what i found was a music library filled with all my songs - however they were not accessible because the drive that the library was designated to pull from was not mapped yet. so i followed directions directions for pulling over my library from the external - all seemed well until the new library was visible. Now the drive was mapped properly and the songs were accessible. However i noticed right off the bat that i was missing files. The first thing i did was go to the external to see what the deal was - they were missing from the external as well! Now i'm confused, because i know that the files were present - i've never deleted any. The only side note that i can offer is that after i copied my files over to the new computer, i renamed the file on the external to iTunesLibrary_backup. This was done before i noticed any missing files. I'm now running a iRecover 3.4 (trial version) scan of the external to see if the files are recoverable. My OS is Vista 64 bit. I guess my questions are 1. Is there any explanation for my data loss? and 2. am i on the right track using iRecover - is there a free program out there that does the same thing? Thanks for any help you can provide. Cheers. A |

Hi,
It sounds really odd. Itunes is a strange beast, you may never know what actually went wrong. Download the beta version of Recover My Files from Recover My Files v4 Beta Testing Page and run a drive recovery for the itunes and mp3 file type. Let me know if this finds your files.
