I have a two month old WD 1TB My Book that has been on the floor of my office. It has been tipped over, and was working up until a week ago.
When I plug it in, it sounds like a fan comes on, and feels like it is spinning, however the external light does not come on and it is not recognized by the computer (Quad Core Intel Xeon Mac). I have pushed the round power button on the back to no avail. I have heard no clicking, but fear the worst. Thanks in advance. |

Sounds like you have already checked all the connections without any result. You should try it on another machine/s to confirm that it is not recognized.
If you want to pursue the recovery yourself, the next logical step (if you have the skills/experience required) is to take the hard drive out of the USB case and connect it directly to your pc. This takes the USB case / connections out of the equation. Before you do this, also consider if this will void the warranty as the drive is quite new.
