I am trying to recover 40GB of data from a 200GB drive that was reformatted. It started in a 98SE machine and is now in a 2kPro machine. After 30+ hrs. of scanning I get about 1900+ files and 6000+ OS. This is the furthest I have made it; usually it crashes the system between 6 and 10 hrs. of scanning. It sees what I need, I just can't seem to make it more that 25% through the sector level scan. What am I doing wrong?

After reading through all the previous posts (yes, which I should have done first) I encountered a similar thread. I stopped the scan after 16 hours and see what looks like a large portion of my missing data. Is there any way to save what I've found so far and go back in for the rest?

First, please make sure you are using the latest version of Recover My Files, available from www.recovermyfiles.com or by clicking the UPDATE button on the main program screen.
You should be using the "Format Recover Option". Please first try a "Fast Format Recover" as this only takes 10 minutes to run and may get all your data back. Depending on the results, please then try a "Complete Format Recover". It is very important that you search only for the default selected file types as this will maintain the search speed. Yes, you can stop the search mid way, save the files that are found, and then start again from the place that you stopped. Before stopping the program, note down the cluster number, next to the progress bar, that the search is up to. When you go to restart your search, click ont he OPTIONS button and in the ADVANCED tab put a tick in the box for "prompt for start cluster" - put the start cluster in when requested and continue your search.
