Default All deleted files display as "Overwritten"

I used the evaluation copy of recover my files to scan the disk to see if any files are recoverable before purchasing a copy of the product. I can see all the files that have been deleted, and know that I have not intentionally written any additional information to the disk, but all files that have been deleted show as "overwritten".

Is this a "feature' of the evaluation copy, or has all of my data been lost?

The Windows XP CHKDSK utility ran as part of the startup procedure, which is what I suspect trashed my files.

Default Chkdisk Recovery

What version of Recover My Files are you using? What type of search did you run to find all your file names?

Default Data Recover from CHKDSK

The trail version of Recover My Files is fully functional other than you have to enter a product activation key in order to save your files.

The file names are stored at the start of the disk in a different location to the actual data. This is why you can see the file names but not the content.

It is difficult to say what the chkdsk process did. You may find on your computer that you have a lot of CHKDSK files on your PC (these may be hidden files).

I suggest that you try the followng:

1. Run a "Complete File Search" with Recover My Files again.

2. In the drive selection window put a tick next to the C: drive (or if this is not the problem drive, put a tick next to the problem drive). Also click on "add folders to the search" and put a tick next to the "C:\" folder. This will add all the "active" files on you C: drive to the search (ie. the ones that are not deleted). If you have CHKDSK files on you PC this will search these files also.

Check the results in the preview window and see if you can find your missing data.
