Repairing corrupted image files

We have seen programs that repair Word documents, and Outlook PST files, but what can we use to repair a corruppted JPG or GIF image?

Also, it appears that when we recover vB php files that they are converted into text files. Is there a php editor that can batch convert them back in php again
