Default Data Recovery

If you have lost files on your C: drive, then, if possible, you should install Recover My Files to another drive and run it from that location (eg. D: drive, a USB etc).

The reason we say this is as follows:

Recover My Files is about 6mb in size. This means, that when you install it the program will take up 6mb of hard disk space. There is a very small chance that this 6mb will contain a deleted file or two that is important. It is a small chance because if you have 40gb of free space 6mb is only a very small amount of space.

We also tell you that if you are trying to recover deleted files then you should mimimise the use of your computer until you have attempted recovery. This is for the same reason, as using the computer will write to the disk and may overwrite and destroy delted files.

When you find files you must save them to another drive, a network drive or a CD or USB. Again this is for the same reason, you cannot save back to the hard drive you are recovering them from or you may overwrite and destroy files that are yet to be saved.

I hope this helps.

If you have deleted files, the best search is a "Complete File Search". If you have formatted your hard drive, or for some reason the drive no longer appears, then you should try a "Fast Format Recover" followed by a "Complete Format Recover".
