    Default images corrupt?

    Using Version 4.6.6 (845) with Windows 7

Recovered a ton of .tiff images in Lost + Found, but they won't open. I knew something was wrong when they wouldn't preview. Saved a few to disc, Photoshop says it's the wrong kind of document.

Any clues?! This is killing me

    Thanks...

    How were your files lost?

Change the extension of a few of these file to .txt and then open them in notepad.

What do you see inside? data or blank?

Deleted, sent to Recycle Bin by accident. Even though the Bin hasn't been emptied, the folder with all the images was still in the Recycle Bin, but alas, empty. It could only have been in the last two months as well.

Changed extension to .txt, opened in Notepad - saw a TON of s-t-r-a-n-g-e text and Japanese characters. While they won't preview in the software window, they display locally with Photoshop's ******* 'tif image' marker.

Yet, most of the .tif images in LostFileResults preview fine -- even though they're way older. It's the Lost+Found files that seem corrupt...

It sounds like these photos have been overwritten with new data.

Windows still has the file names, which point to the location of the files on the disk. However, that location has been used by Windows to store new data, so the old JPEG data has been overwritten and destroyed.

The "LostFiles" have been found by locating the actual header and footer of the file - which is whey they should be valid files and preview ok.

When you say that they will preview with Photoshop's ******* 'tif image' marker - do you mean that you can see thumbnails? (it may be that the file has a small jpeg at the front used as the thumb nail image).

You can send some of these files to support@getdata.com and we can take a closer look.

    Thanks for the replies...

Wish it was a sunnier outlook. None of them were ever jpeg's... just regular tif's. No, can't see them in thumbnail view... I've attached the PS marker. No luck with opening them though... And the empty folder were they used to be has no previous version. Damn!

Is there any conflict with running a defrag program? I have one that runs automatically (Perfect Disk)? Maybe they got moved around?

    Anyway, cheers again
