    Default data recovery

Do the files have their original names? Or are they called "lost files"?

    How were the files lost?

    GDH,

They were accidentally deleted. They had the correct files names - they are word documents.

    Thanks

    Default Data Recovery

If the files have their original name it means the there is still a record of the file in the Windows Master File Table (MFT) as a deleted file. Windows uses this MFT record to go to the location of the file on the disk.

The fact that when you collect the data from that position on the disk and it contains other characters means that the part of the disk where the specific file was stored has already been used to store new data. The old file is now at least partially overwritten (if not fully) and is corrupt.
