    Default HD not recognized

The hd of my laptop crashed. I`m trying to get the data back by connecting it as a secondary hd and as an external (USB). Both ways, the pc detects a "usb mass storage" but does not assign a letter to it. So I can`t acess it with explorer.

    When I check the hd with recovery-software, it says it`s 2.098.152 MB big (it`s a 20gb one, not a 2098gb), I see 4.294.967.295 cylinders, 1 head, 1 sector. I can`t access it, no matter what.

Any help is very much appreciated!

    Default Data Recovery

    Hi

When you connect the drive as a secondary drive and run Recover My Files do you see a "physical disk" (it should be physical disk 1) listed in the drive selection widow? If so, search this.

When you listen to the disk does it sound like it is getting power? (can you hear it spinning).

What is the error message when you try and access the physical drive with Recover My Files? Please click on OPTIONS on the main program screen and under the GENERAL tab turn LOGGING to DEBUG. Now try and open the drive. Copy and paste the Event log in the bottom window of the main screen and send it to me.

Itīs spinning up, but I can`t access it in recovermyfiles. I see a connected "USB mass storage" in the window for disconnecting hardware. With another recover-software I was able to read th cylinders and sectors.

    Default Drive Recovery

Please download and run this imaging program. Are you able to see the physical drive listed using this program?

    1: Physical Drive
    Size = 2199023255040
    Number of partitions = 0
    Number of sectors = 4294967295
    Number of cyclinders = 4294967295
    Number of heads = 1
    Number of sectors/track = 1

This indicates a very serious drive error and the drive cannot be read.

Please email me directly and I will give you some information and instructions to try one last thing.
